Need a ride to Pennsic - NYC area [Jul. 21st, 2009|08:17 pm]

Sorry if this is a little off topic but desperation time has set in and I need some help.

My friend and booth helper Mary Jane needs a ride to Pennsic.  She lives in the New York City area and can leave either Thursday night or Friday morning July 31.  She only has a duffle bag, small rolling luggage, and her backpack and can share gas and driving.  Can anyone help?  Please contact me here or email Pacita at materialis dot com.

Thank you so much for your help!

Pennsic - Notes from Pacita - 6 of 6 [Jul. 19th, 2009|06:03 am]

Hello Everyone!  It’s here it’s here it’s here!  Well, almost :)

There are several parts to this update as you can see.  Please read it if you can.  I might make one more post this week about food donations needed and the possibility of a Carmine led hafla at our camp but I need to get some sleep and finish packing first.

I will be posting some signs in camp with various bits of info on them.  A “welcome to The Caravanserai”, a complete list of rules for the kitchen, no shoes on the carpet, a listing of classes, Dinner sign up sheet, etc.  Please be sure to read them when you arrive.

Dan and I are hoping to leave from Fairfield, CT on Friday morning/afternoon.  If anyone would like to caravan with us, we would love the company :)

Pennsic - The Caravanserai Pennsic Class Schedule - 4 of 6 [Jul. 19th, 2009|05:48 am]

1)      The Caravanserai Pennsic class schedule

As you may know, The Caravanserai is hosting some of the Pennsic classes this year.  There are only a few classes scheduled in camp but please remember to be respectful of their classroom time and be aware of the volume of your conversations.  The current schedule is below.

Also, the Haberci is out!  This is a newsletter that has all the Middle Eastern parties, haflas, and classes at Pennsic.  You can download it at tinyurl.com/kwfsqg or pick one up at Your Inner Vagabond.  If you can donate some paper and ink, feel free to print extra copies and bring them to YIV for distribution.

Pennsic - Ostgardr Help Needed - 2 of 6 [Jul. 19th, 2009|05:45 am]

1)      Ostgardr help needed

There are three events going on in our Ostgardr camp that I would love to have us participate in.

A)    Opening Ceremonies Sun Aug 2nd Meet at 10:15 am in camp.  This is a fun parade from our camp to Pennsic War Opening Ceremonies on the battlefield.  We need as much loud music, drumming, color and pomp as we can muster.  The more people the merrier so please come and support Ostgardr if you can.  There will be green and white tabards available to borrow and I’ll have two sets of green and white fanveils to add more color and excitement to our parade.

B)     Runnymede East Kingdom Landed Barons dinner Mon Aug 3rd 6pm in camp.  This is a very special dinner that Ostgardr is hosting and they have need of kitchen volunteers and servers.  If you’re not going to the Cure Sallee that night, please, please, please consider volunteering and helping out.  Email the Vicereine at ltrue@panix. com to volunteer.

C)    Ostgardr Pot Luck Dinner Wed Aug 5th at 6pm in camp.  I will probably be running off to the booth by then to work Midnight Madness but if you are in camp, feel free to get to know your Ostgardrian camp mates and bring a dish to share.

Pennsic - Problem Solving - 1 of 6 [Jul. 19th, 2009|05:43 am]

1)      Problem solving

So there are a few problems that I need help figuring out.  I’m hoping some of you who are going for Land Grab can give me a hand with it.

A)    I have a couple of layout ideas for this year.  My preferred one is a 30x30 area made up of four 10x20 carports and one ez-up.  To make this work I need four rain gutters; two gutters along the 20 ft sides of a carport and two gutters between the 10ft end of a carport and an ez-up.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this AND can head up this project?  We will probably also need some new tarps donated to make it work.

B)     The roof for the kitchen carport (which was the lounge last year) is ripped.  I can’t afford to buy a new one.  Dan thinks we can still make it serviceable with something he calls “Gorilla duct tape”.  Can people help him get this to work when we set up the camp?  Does anyone have any of this magic duct tape stuff?  If anyone is feeling particularly generous and wants to buy us a new top, here is the link to our brand of carport. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4642460  You can find just the top on some other sites.

C)    When we get to Land Grab, I will need some people to bring their empty vehicles (once they’ve dropped their stuff at Ostgardr) to the storage unit to load the Caravanserai stuff and bring it home.  Let me know if you can help with this.

D)    I still have not found a ride for Mary Jane.  It’s getting close to time and I’m worried.  She will be available to leave for Pennsic on Thu night Jul 30th or Fri morning Jul 31st.  Does anyone know someone who is going then?  She does drive and has a license.

Food and Party Calendar [Jun. 25th, 2009|11:34 pm]

Okay, first of all here is the roll call for the people I know who are coming and pre-regged.

Cyndal & Ian
Greg & Megan
Dan & Pacita
Benny & Hector
Jordan & Ann & David, Drew, Chloe
Mary Jane
Amy & Greg & Arwen

Reuben is not pre-regged but may come and squeeze in anyway.  We shall see.  That comes to 18 adults and 5 kids.  Whew!  Anyone know who else is coming?

Below is the current meal plan and MED performance/party schedule.  I've removed myself from doing Taco Night because I've been stressing a lot lately over logistics and finances.  If anyone else would like to volunteer and sponsor Taco Night (or whatever menu you want to cook) that would be awesome.  In fact, if anyone wants to volunteer to sponsor and cook dinner for ANY available night, that would be nice :D  If you've already volunteered (Thanks Rav and Megan!) and want to post more details, let me know.

So I have several nights of "Caravanserai Pre-Party Tea Party".  This is basically a mini mellow hafla after dinner.  A time for us to sit, play music, tell stories, dance, chill out, and have tea/coffee before heading out to the late night parties.  It's a semi-private thing meaning that I'm not really posting it to the public but will be inviting a bunch of special dancer, musician, and storytelling friends.  Feel free to invite friends but don't let it turn into a huge drum bangfest (not this year at least ;).  Actually, I was thinking of making little invites (like some of the parties used to do years ago) for all of us to give out to special friends.  Let's see how it goes this year.
