Pennsic! It's almost here!!!! [Jul. 13th, 2010|03:23 am]

Greetings, Everyone!

Sorry my Pennsic Missives have been few and far between this year. Life has been hectic for us lately as my parents have moved in with us (until they go back to Thailand in Oct.), Daniel's been working a freelance gig in Westchester, and I injured myself and have been in physical therapy. Hectic.

Anyway, if you haven't already, please email me the size of your tent and the date you think you will be arriving at Pennsic. If you can help Daniel and I set up camp on Land Grab weekend, please please please let me know. We could use all the help we can get!

If you missed pre-reg and still want to go to Pennsic and camp with us, please email me.

Here is our current donation “thermometer”.
Goal: $800-$1000
Current Donations: $0

Donations can be made in cash, check, or through Paypal at Pacita@Materialis.com. This money goes towards storage and upkeep of structures as well as water, ice, propane, and sundries for the kitchen. (This does not include meals.) We will have our big kitchen as usual this year. The amount of donations we get this year will determine whether or not we have one next year.

I will be doing a run to our storage unit at Pennsic possibly July 21-22. If anyone would like to come with me, I am looking for someone to help me drive and unload. Think of it as an extra adventure :) I might stop at Knoebles or go on a cave tour on the way back just for fun :D Let me know if you're interested in taking a run out there with me. I'll even let you take over the radio stations in the car lol!

Below is the sign up schedule for meals. This will also be posted in camp for people to write in their names. But if you know ahead of time that you want to volunteer for something, email me and I will update this schedule.

Sponsors pay for the ingredients of a meal and Chefs cook it. If you want to Sponsor or Chef for a meal, be sure to try and have at least one vegetarian option and make enough food to feed at least 12 people. I am currently sponsoring/cooking two meals; first night dinner and the Ostgardr Pancake Breakfast. I would love to cook a Taco Night but am currently out of funds. Does anyone want to sponsor Taco Night?

Remember, it's not that expensive to sponsor/cook a meal. A Spaghetti Night is pretty inexpensive. Hot dogs can be found cheap. And a Hamburger Helper type meal can go a long way.

Finally, I'd like to give a big THANK YOU! to Jordan and Ann. Jordan has been working out a way to make our water and propane situation cheaper and more efficient. And Ann has volunteered to be Kitchen Manager for the second week. Please be sure to give her a hand! If anyone else would like to volunteer to be a Kitchen Manager or Assistant (either first week, second week, or both), let me know!

In service to the "insanity that is Pennsic at Ostgardr" dream,

(and Daniel who is nice enough to put up with her :)

I've got about $140 invested in this year's propane/water utility upgrade. In the coming years that will turn into a recurring cost of about $35.

Ann also has two 10 gallon Sterilites filled with meal making provisions.

Thanks for the links to the discussion. I will see if I can devise additional filtration before the war.

I have located the utility sink in the VTRF trailers and will be bringing it along with x-hundred feet of hose to connect her up. It is my hope to sump out to the drainage ditch via a hose for a neater kitchen.

sad face MJ

Sorry I won't be there to clean, make food and wait upon people (its like medieval maid cafe!) Instead I'll be in my mundanes, working and being hot (heat, not my regular sexiness). I'll be dreaming in costume! Damn, I hate that I'm missing it.

I have gotten all parts together.

I have pressure tested and packed the propane octopus into a bag with a wrench. We'll also have an in-line level check hooked up so we can tell when the tank is getting low. I'll be bringing along two tanks so I'm pretty sure we'll be fine for the whole war. Budget contribution on this lot is.... $57 for 3 extension tubes, $15 for one T and free for the second one (I had it), $10 for the level/leak gauge, $50 for the two tanks of gas. Total is....$132. Recurring cost is about $25/year assuming we burn through one 22lb tank a year.

Water - I have added an inline RV water filter to the system. These can be run in series to improve the filtration if desired. We already had one from the year before. So I'll be bringing along a plastic utility sink full of hose and filters. We should be good to go with running, filtered water. Budget contrib on this rig is $20 for the PUR faucet rig, sink was Pacita's, hoses were 30ish bucks, $20 for the in-line filter. Total of $70. A little more than planned but it should provide good utility and cut costs pretty well.

So Clan Weinstein is about 2 bills into the camp. We'll be bringing along about 1 bill worth of Discount Food Warehouse priced provisions with two full 10 gallon tubs of happiness.

We're very serious about supporting the success of the Caravanserai over the long term and are happy to be a part of this good camp.

Best Regards,
